Ute Brucker was born in Tübingen, Germany. After completing her studies in German and Romance languages, she began her journalistic career at the Tübingen regional studio of German public broadcaster Südwestfunk (SWF). After internships in France and Baden-Baden, she switched to television in 1995 and has worked as a foreign editor at SWR since 1996. She moderated the SWR programs "Blickpunkt Europa" and "Euro.Land" (2001-02), as well as "Europamagazin" for the TV channel Das Erste. She produced reports for SWF and Das Erste in Europe, North Africa and the Middle East, including several times as a correspondent in Cairo and during the Iraq war in 2003 as a reporter in Baghdad and Jordan. From 2004-08, she directed the Madrid studio of the ARD consortium of public broadcasters. In January 2009, she took over the management of the TV world affairs program "Weltspiegel". In addition, she has been head of the SWR’s foreign news department since 2010.
