IPI is a Vienna-based global network of editors, media executives and leading journalists. We are dedicated to furthering and safeguarding press freedom, protecting freedom of opinion and expression, promoting the free flow of news and information, and improving the practices of journalism.

Simon K.C. Li

Simon Li is a former vice chair of IPI's Executive Board and an IPI Fellow. He has been a member of IPI since 1995. He retired from newspaper journalism in 2007 after 23 years at the Los Angeles Times, more than 16 of them on the international news desk, which he led from 1995 to 2002. He was an assistant managing editor when he left the paper. Previously, he had worked at the Philadelphia Inquirer, also in a variety of editing roles. He serves on the Board of Visitors at Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism, and the Rector's Council of his Oxford University alma mater, Lincoln College, where he is also a Fleming Fellow. He is also a long-time member of the Asian American Journalists Association, which has twice honoured him for his trail-blazing career and continuing support of other Asian Americans in the media.
