Thank you for attending the IPI World Congress 2019 in Geneva, organized by the International Press Institute (IPI), in partnership with European Broadcasting Union (EBU).

IPI is a Vienna-based global network of editors, media executives and leading journalists. We are dedicated to furthering and safeguarding press freedom, protecting freedom of opinion and expression, promoting the free flow of news and information, and improving the practices of journalism.

Pilar has been reporting for Spanish Public Television’s (TVE) programme “En Portada” since 2004 covering foreign affairs and international issues. Previously she worked as TVE’s correspondent in Germany and CEE region. During her career at TVE she has covered important global and international events such as the German unification, elections in Germany, Austria, Turkey, as well as the trial of PKK leader Oçalan, and EU and NATO summits, among others. She also reported from several war and conflict zones (the Gulf war, conflicts in Georgia, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Ukraine) which have helped her gain deep knowledge and understanding of global affairs and develop a strong interest in international cooperation among media organizations and investigative reporters.

Pilar is an Associate Professor of Public Diplomacy at the IE University in Madrid and has won numerous national awards for her reporting.  She’s the author of the book “The Reluctant Power” (2017) covering Germany after the fall of the Berlin wall, “Afghanistan” (2011) and co-author of the book “We Want to Know – How Crisis of Journalism Affects Us All” (2012).
