Thank you for attending the IPI World Congress 2019 in Geneva, organized by the International Press Institute (IPI), in partnership with European Broadcasting Union (EBU).

IPI is a Vienna-based global network of editors, media executives and leading journalists. We are dedicated to furthering and safeguarding press freedom, protecting freedom of opinion and expression, promoting the free flow of news and information, and improving the practices of journalism.

Christoph Plate, is a Political Scientist, Reporter and Moderator. 

1993 – 2002  Africa-Correspondent for German-speaking media, i.e. “Der Spiegel”, ARD Radio, “Neue Zürcher Zeitung”, covering major events i.e. the UN-intervention in Somalia, the genocide in Rwanda, the toppling of Mobutu Sese Seko in Zaire, civil wars in Liberia and Sierra Leone.


2002 – 2012 Middle East Editor for “NZZ am Sonntag” in Switzerland, covering the US-led intervention in Iraq, the “war on terror” in Afghanistan, the Taliban in Pakistan and the Iranian answer to Arab extremism.


2012 – 2017 Deputy editor-in-chief of the German daily “Schwäbische Zeitung”, covering German politics and the effects of  globalisation on the export-orientated economy of Baden-Württemberg.


Plate has published widely on African affairs, given presentations on Africas diversity, on the refugee crisis.
